Sharing the platform it was built on with the Compass and the Dodge Caliber, the Patriot was designed to offer even better off-road capabilities.
No need to have the badge on to realise it was a Jeep, as the exterior designed screamed its name from every pore, with the seven-slot grille, the strong belt line, the bulging fender flares and the rectangular body.

For 2017, two trim levels were available with the Patriot.

As standard, the Patriot was fitted with a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that developed 172 hp. The unit was mated with a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The base model was available with both a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel drive system. With the AWD system and the added off-road package, the CVT came with a low crawling ratio, offering maximum torque when needed.

A smaller 2.0-liter 158 hp was offered with the front-wheel-drive Sport model and the CVT.

The Limited trim level added 17-inch alloys, leather upholstery, cruise control, power windows and power mirrors, heated seats, keyless entry and exterior chrome accents.

Safety wise, the Patriot was equipped with antilock disc brakes, traction control and stability control. A tire-pressure monitor was included with the optional Convenience package.

Most of the features included with the Limited trim level could be added to the Sport version by adding stand-alone options or packages.
