An American Icon, the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was a controversial and appealing SUV.
Why controversial and why appealing? The Wrangler was not the most refined SUV, with a noisy cabin and rough-riding. However, the exterior design was boxy, the vehicle looking like a modernised old, strong, rough SUV, giving a feeling of confidence.

The 2012 model was available in a 2-door or a 4-door Unlimited body style. Both versions were available in three trim levels, the Sport, the Sahara and the Rubicon.

The Unlimited with the Sport trim level included 16-inch wheels, fog lamps, a removable soft top, cruise control, a 6-speaker sounds system, steering controls, air conditioning and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat.

The Sahara trim level added 18-inch alloys, an upgraded suspension, automatic headlights and an upgraded 6-speaker audio system.

A more off-road oriented trim level, the Rubicon, featured heavy-duty axles and transfer case, locking differentials, rock rails and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Wrangler Unlimited was driven by a new 3.6-liter V6 unit that developed 285 hp. A 6-speed manual transmission was standard, while a 5-speed automatic gearbox was available. A four-wheel-drive system was standard on every trim level.

Safety wise, the Wrangler Unlimited featured antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control and hill start assist. Optional safety features included front side airbags.

The Wrangler is one of the most recognizable cars on the road.
Jeep kept the design tradition, with its round headlights and jailhouse grille, pointing back to their first models in 1940.The Wrangler launched in 2006 was available in 6 trim levels: SE, X, Sport, Rubicon, Unlimited and Unlimited Rubicon.
The all-new 2006 version of the Wrangler Unlimited brought a longer wheelbase, more doors and room for five adults. This made it the longest in the Wrangler range, a fact which is not necessarily appreciated by people who took their cars off-road. They complained that the car’s larger size made it more difficult to control it over rough terrain.
Two engines were available for the Wrangler, a 2.4-liter mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox, or a 4.0-liter with a 6-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
The interior of a Wrangler was still basic, far from luxurious yet comfortable, excellently served the car’s purpose: a perfect mix between an off-road and a city car.
Along with the larger chassis, came a hoard of accessories. In 2007 the Wrangler Unlimited was modified for army use and named the J8. Offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive, Jeep Wrangler Unlimited utilizes the same five-link solid-axle suspension configuration as the standard 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The all-new 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited also retains Wrangler’s coveted removable full-framed or half doors, exposed hinges, fold-down windshield and innovative removable and convertible tops.

By the time the Unlimited Rubicon was introduced, the Wrangler had already become an American icon, so Chrysler had to be very careful with the design.
They chose to keep things simple and follow the same lines, adding a few inches here and there on the car in order to allow more space on the inside to fit more nifty gadgets. The trim level for the Rubicon allowed for a number of features that weren’t available on the base version, the X. From better performance, increased security to entertainment facilities the Rubicon Unlimited was all in all fully loaded.

In April 2004, the Wrangler Unlimited was launched at the New York Auto Show.
One of the main features was the fact that it was even longer than the original TJ model. The engine and the transmission were the same as on the original JK model. The Wrangler Unlimited was at the time the only 4x4 convertible in the US. But what really set the Unlimited apart from the previous trim levels of the Wrangler were the features.
