Depending on individual market preferences, the new cee’d will be available with a wide choice of engines offering power outputs from 90 to 135 PS. The 2013 Kia Cee’d is lower and lower than its predecessor, making it look sleeker while the redesigned front fascia gives it a more robust, sporty look. The ride and handling have been refined to offer the same performances as near-premium competitors. The interior has been sound proofed a bit better, there’s more space and high-quality equipment adorns the dashboard.

Part of the mid-sized family hatchback market, the first generation of Kia Ceed was released in 2006.
Along the years, the Ceed was produced in over 1.3 million units and was one of Kia’s best selling models, reaching its 3rd generation in 2018.

The Ceed was produced and designed in Europe, the 2018 model bringing a fresh design, with headlamps similar to the sporty Stinger and a refined back, a bit similar to the BMW 1 Series.

The interior of the Ceed was nothing sophisticated, however, it provided comfort and utility. Passengers had more than enough headroom and legroom, with the exception of the middle seat in the back, which was mostly suitable for a short person due to the reduced legroom.

Maybe in 2006 the Ceed was not to be compared with other already famous and desired cars like the VW’s Golf, but Kia evolved surprisingly fast and provided most of the latest features for a lower price than a Golf could.

The Ceed had a 295 liters trunk and a 12v socket inside. It was offered with 5 engine variants, all of them meeting the euro 6 criteria. Even the standard version of the Ceed came with 6 airbags, 4 power windows, power and heated mirrors, an armrest, bluetooth, A/C as well as lane assist, autonomous emergency braking and a fatigue monitor. The safety features mentioned were to become compulsory and nevertheless provided a better crash test score.

The multilink rear suspension was to be appreciated, as it offered more stability and coped very well with the road imperfections.

The Ceed was designed to offer a pleasant daily drive, with upgraded technology and offered the already known 7 year warranty.

Riding on the success of the first Kia C’eed, the second generation of the compact model was manufactured between 2012 and 2018, with a mid-cycle refresh having been operated on the car in 2015.
The visual differences between the older car and the refreshed second-generation Kia C’eed are subtle, but do make the car appear more modern. Retaining the “tiger nose” engine grille shape and headlamps, the revamped model got a new chrome-look trim around the fog lamps, the grille mesh is now oval-shaped, while the bumper has a more angular design that makes the car appear wider.

The rear end also sports a redesigned bumper, while the taillights were infused with LED technology to make their light signature appear more dynamic at night. The revamped exterior is completed by newly designed 16-inch and 17-inch alloy wheels for the various trim levels.

The subtle design changes continue inside, where the dashboard, center console and the air vents were adorned with a chrome-look trim pieces, while the central panel got a new anti-scratch gloss black finish. Thanks to the addition of more sound-absorbing materials, the NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) levels have been improved, especially on the diesel models.

Speaking of engines, the entire powertrain lineup has been revamped and it now also includes a brand new 1.0-liter ecoTurbo three-cylinder, which is available with either 100 horsepower and 172 Nm of torque or 120 horsepower and the same amount of torque.

The cee’d was the biggest breakthrough for the Korean car-maker Kia.
It was launched just before the world economic crisis and it offered more than anyone expected. In 2009 it received a facelift.

The cee’d was designed and engineered for the European market. It was even built in Europe in a new, modern, factory. The compact hatchback stormed the market and the demands overwhelmed the production speed. Its main attributes were the decent pricing policy, the 7-years warranty, and the car’s technical features. The design was another plus point. In 2009, all of the above, apart from the warranty, were enhanced.

There was a new design trend in the European C-segment market. The car received a new headlight design and a new grille. The LED-look taillights were re-designed accordingly, to match the front end. The overall length of the car was increased with 25 mm (0.98”) due to its bigger front and rear bumpers. A new set of light-alloy wheels of 16” or 17” were added to the options list.

Inside, a new four-spoke steering wheel design was installed and the three-cylinder design for the instrument cluster enhanced the driver’s experience. Unlike the pre-facelifted version, it now featured an amber light for all the dials and buttons from the center stack. The latter received a new button layout as well. The material quality was enhanced. A full-leather upholstery and carbon-fiber trims were available on the options list.

Five engines were on the drivetrain list, with a new, 1.6-liter turbodiesel unit. The power range available for the compact-sized vehicle was between 90 and 143 hp. The 2009 Kia cee’d was available with a choice of 5- or 6-speed manual transmission fitted as standard, and automatic gearboxes for selected engines.

The Korean car manufacturer decided to build a C-segment vehicle designed specially for Europe.
The C’eed nameplate came from the European Economic Community - CEE in some places - and the ED stood for “European Design”.

Kia managed to guess the taste and the needs of the European consumers and came with a great design and a very practical vehicle.

Although a family oriented car, the C’eed looked rather compact and sporty on the inside, with the 3-spoke steering wheel and the three-dial instrument cluster. The controls were intuitively placed and could easily be used while driving.

The C’eed was equipped with electric front and rear windows and 2 electronically adjustable exterior mirrors.

The C’eed offered great room for both the front and the rear passengers. The trunk space was also a good size, and by folding the rear seats (with a 60/40 split configuration), the luggage space could be increased.

5 engine choices were available, with power ranging between 90 and 140 hp. The KIA’s new 1.6-liter Diesel engine was designed in Europe for the 2007 C’eed.

The C’eed was available with 3 trim levels: LX, EX and TX. The top of the range had part-leather seats and a full leather trim. A great feature, users could choose between 4 interior finishes: Basic, Rainbow, Classic and Sporty.
