Buick offered its customers a brand new design for all their post-war models, including the Roadmaster.
Developed by GM’s Ned Nickles, the 1949 Roadmaster Convertible featured a lower aerodynamic body style, redesigned grille (as compared to the previous Roadmaster models) and revised tail lights. It was fitted with a Fireball 8-cylinder inline engine delivering 150 hp and mated to a Dynaflow torque-converter automatic transmission (a first on the North American market). Other features included hydraulically-operated rooftop, windows and front seat. This model was discontinued in 1958.
