The SLK saw a first-generation mid-life facelift in 2000 with the introduction of newer design elements.
Although the general appearance of the vehicle remained unchanged, the front end was revamped with a new, wider spoiler while a new set of wheels was introduced. Upholstery choices were also diversified with the introduction of two-tone leather configuration that covered the whole interior from seats to dashboard. The blend of quality materials was complemented by steering wheel, dash and door high quality trims. As for the underpinnings, new additions included a 6-speed manual transmission mated to a 3.2 L V6 petrol unit capable of 215 hp.
