The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic made its worldwide appearance at the 2011 North American International Auto Show, at Detroit.
Being the first car to use GM’s new worldwide small car platform, the new Sonic is practically GM’s new nameplate for the Aveo in the US, Mexico and Canada. It comes in either sedan or hatchback form. The Sonic is assembled at GM’s Orion Assembly Center in Michigan. As far as the hatchback version goes, it’s more stylish than the Aveo it replaces and is meant to compete against models like Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris. It features the same engines present on the Cruze.
