The Fiat 1400 was an innovative car for its time and for the company because it incorporated a lot of features that the Italian automaker never used before.
It didn’t have a chassis but monocoque body.
Also, this was the first Fiat to use a diesel engine, a 1900 cc unit that was oddly called the 1400 so as to not be confused with the 1900 petrol engine that had just been released.
The Fiat 1400 came with a radio and a rudimentary “trip computer” as standard. Another interesting feature was the fuel filler hole, which was actually in the trunk under a trapdoor. This way, the fuel was safe once the car was locked.
