The German manufacturer introduced a sportier version of its 80 model in 1990, the Audi S2 Coupe.
Its designation also included the ‘quattro’ name, as it featured an exclusive permanent all-wheel-drive system and a powerful 2.2-liter 20-valve turbocharged engine delivering 220 hp. Based on the B4 platform, the new model was initially available as a 2-door sports coupe. The S2 range was later completed with the introduction of a 5-door Avant variant (estate/wagon) in 1993. The same year, the 2.2-liter unit received a 10-hp boost, while a 6-speed manual-transmission was also available as an option.
