2017 2020

The 2018 Chevrolet Traverse was unveiled at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show.
It was designed as an 8-seat crossover MPV, but its look was closer to an SUV.

The Traverse was planned as a vehicle to be sold in the North American continent and in Russia, Middle East, and the South American market as well. For the South Korean market was already introduced and received the nickname “Super SUV” and it was the largest crossover in the region.

The outside look was closer to the Tahoe. The grille was bigger and the headlights were smaller than before, but with a truck-like design. It featured LED signature lighting and available D-Optic LED headlamps. To stand apart from the Tahoe, the Traverse was lower, but with a bigger wheelbase. In the back, the Traverse featured a bowtie logo lamp, which illuminated the ground to show where drivers need to place a foot to activate the power-liftgate.

Inside the vehicle, the passengers had access to USB charging ports in all three seating rows to keep them comfortable and connected. The 2018 Traverse featured Chevrolet’s latest connectivity technologies that included available 7- and 8” MyLink infotainment systems designed to support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as an available OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.

Unusual for a vehicle of that size, the Traverse was available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive only. The 3.6-liter V6 was mated to the same gearbox, but it was available with all-wheel-drive.

2012 2017

The crossover market’s ascension made Chevrolet change its strategy and introduced the Traverse range in 2008.
Four years later, the Traverse received an update both on the interior and the exterior. The vehicle had to follow a new design path than the original version. From the technical point of view, the Traverse came fitted with the same engine as before, only slightly updated.

In 2008, Chevrolet imposed the front’s design theme with the bow-tie mounted on a transverse bar on the grille. But that has been changed until 2012 and installed a new grille with three horizontal slats. Transverse’s headlights were redesigned and received a more swept-back look, while the bumper was completely redesigned and received a set of fog-lights incorporated in side-scoops. The taillights were redesigned in the rear and received a rectangular shape instead of the twin, half-round design who started a lot of jokes about the car’s back.

Inside, the Traverse kept it’s up to eight passengers capacity, with a 2-3-3 configuration. While it wasn’t fit for a complete basketball team, it still offered enough comfort for a regular family with children and a couple of friends. The upgraded materials included soft-touch materials on the cabin and upper door panels. On the redesigned center stack, Chevrolet installed a 6.5” MyLink infotainment system.

Under the hood, Chevrolet kept the same 3.6-liter V6 gasoline engine paired to a standard 6-speed automatic. The car was available with either front- or all-wheel-drive.

The Traverse was the latest introduction of the 7-seat crossover SUV built by GM and sold under the Chevrolet badge.
While the world struggled to survive the economic crisis, Chevrolet dared to introduce a new model based on the same platform as its cousins GMC Arcadia and Saturn Outlook. It stayed the passage of time while the Outlook went down the drain along with the Saturn brand, and it was the right car at the wrong time.

The market was split into minivans and the new crossover trend. While women were more focused on the former, men tend to turn their eyes toward the latter. Its horizontal slat at the front with the golden bow-tie was very esteemed. Thanks to a long roofline and a raised beltline over the rear wheel-fenders, it didn’t look bulky.

Inside, it offered a 7-seat option in a 2+2+3 configuration, like in a regular MPV. Thanks to its flat-folding second and third rows, it was able to load a whole student room on its way to the college. The dashboard car-like design featured a binocular-style instrument cluster. On the center stack, Chevrolet installed a new infotainment system.

Chevrolet offered the Traverse with either a front- or all-wheel-drive system and a highly fuel-efficient V-6 engine with direct fuel injection. It was paired as standard to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
