Imagined as a world SUV, the Captiva was sold globally under different names and badges, from the Daewoo Winstorm MaXX to the Saturn Vue in the U.S.

In Australia, Holden took a different approach on the market and built two vehicles on the same basis: the Captiva and the Captiva MaXX. While the former was designed for most people, the latter was imagined as a sporty SUV that could fill the need for a vehicle bold enough to go into an adventure outside the city.

The Captiva MaXX was 67mm (2.6”) shorter with 20mm (0.8”) less height but 1mm wider (0.04”) than its siblings. It was mostly based on the European Opel Antara and featured similar taller headlights than the Captiva. Its grille sported a chromed slat at its upper side, which in turn resembled the Vauxhall, but with a different badge on it.

The MaXX featured leather-faced sports seats, leather-clad three-spoke steering wheel, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, driver information center display, dual front, side, and curtain airbags, seatback pockets, and under-seat storage tray, and climate-control air-conditioning. It was the sportier version of the Captiva, and it was not available with seven seats.

Under the hood, Holden installed a choice of four engines, with gasoline or turbodiesel. Its top-performer version was powered by a 3.6-liter V6 paired as standard to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
