Land Rover Range Rover Evoque (that is its full name) was offered in three body versions: 3-doors, 5-doors, and convertible. It was not just another compact SUV on the market, it gained a glamorous status.

From the outside, the 3-door Evoque featured a new grille design and new headlights with full-LED. The bumpers were redesigned as well. The 2015 Evoque was offered with three new light-alloy wheels design. For the grille, the standard version featured two horizontal bars, while for the Dynamic trim level a hexagonal mesh-grille was installed.

Inside, the Evoque received new door panels and softer materials for a better tactile experience. The standard version received 8-way adjustable seats with leather upholstery, and a 14-way adjustable seat set with massage was available on the options list. A new 8” infotainment unit was installed, with a dual-view screen, and HDD-based navigation.

The Evoque was based on the same platform with the Land Rover Freelander 2. It was available with front or all-wheel-drive system. The 3-door eD4 version with front-wheel-drive featured the lowest emissions level ever achieved by a Land Rover, with only 109g/km. Depending on the version and engine, it was mated as standard with a 6-speed manual or with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The revolutionary design in the premium compact SUV market looks like it lost its steam. It takes an expert eye to distinguish the second generation from the previous one. It is that similar.

In 2018, Land Rover launched the second Range Rover Evoque. It has increased in size by a few inches, but not from bigger bumpers but from the bigger wheelbase. This is actually good news since the first Evoque was often criticized for its cramped rear-seat room. While it is a little bit longer, and taller, it is narrower than before.

The new infotainment unit is very neatly arranged on the centra console, with a tilting touch-screen display. The dashboard is very clean, without buttons and controls scattered around. Depending on the trim level, the instrument cluster can be with dials or a complete TFT, which can show sat-nav info and can be configured.

Under the hood, there is a choice of 2.0-liter engines, either turbodiesel or gasoline. The power ranges from a basic 150 hp to a top of the range 300 hp unit. For some models, a 6-speed manual transmission and 2WD is available, while on the upper scale the 9-speed automatic transmission and AWD system is offered as standard.

The 5-door version offered good space for the front occupants. The wide-open doors in the rear revealed a bench for three, but mostly for two. The low-greenhouse design with a sloped roof didn’t leave too much headroom for adult passengers. There was a new 8” infotainment unit installed, with a dual-view screen, and HDD-based navigation.

Depending on the version and engine, it was mated as standard with a 6-speed manual or with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Range Rover Evoque is based on the Land Rover LRX concept presented by the manufacturer at the 2008 North American International Auto Show.
What was so special about this concept was that Land Rover was using plenty of efficiency-orientated technologies for it, including lightweight construction materials, regenerative brakes, a stop-start system, and the ERAD (electric rear axle drive) parallel hybrid powertrain system, which was placed on the rear axle of the car and could have started it before the engine was ignited. This technology alone would lead to a 20 to 30 percent decrease of CO2 emissions.
One year later, the UK Government proceeded to a £27 million grant for the construction of this vehicle, on the condition it would be built in Halewood, Liverpool. The Range Rover Evoque was officially unveiled at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.
The Evoque Coupe had a lower roofline and did not offer much headroom for the rear seat passengers, however, overall, the Coupe was still a comfortable and roomy enough car for 4 passengers.
For 2011, the Land Rover did not bring any hybrid or electric versions of the Evoque and offered the public two diesels and one petrol engine. The first two developed 150 bhp or 190 bhp, while the petrol one produced 240 bhp.

When it was launched, the 2011 Range Rover Evoque made all the other compact-SUV like they were designed half-of-century ago.
It broke the design books about how an SUV should look.

The charm was the main advantage over its competitors such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, or the Mercedes-Benz GLK. Even if it didn’t have the same powerful,
six-cylinder engines, it conquered the world with its look.

The narrow headlights, big front bumper, and small grille were some of its improvements in style. A short greenhouse enhanced visually the coupe-like silhouette. The flared wheel-arches made room for bigger wheels.

Inside, the design evolution for the SUV-segment continued with bolstered seas and a dashboard inspired by sports cars with binocular-style dials for the speedometer and tachometer, with an LCD display in between them. It wasn’t a first in the industry, but the small details made a difference. As an option, it featured a dual-view infotainment screen on which the driver could see one thing, while the passenger could see a movie or something else that the infotainment could show. The 5-door version helped with access for the rear seats.

For the technical department, the Evoque came only with 4-cylinder turbocharged engines. The 2.2-liter diesel was a carry-over from the Freelander 2. The rotary pop-up rotary gear selector was seen before on the Jaguar XF and it still looked great. It was fitted as standard with the optional 9-speed automatic gearbox. Last, but not least, the car featured MagnaRide dampers, which could stiffen the suspension for a better road-holding or soften them in off-road use.
