Renault introduced in 2020 the revised version of the Megane RS with a direct injection 1.8 turbo engine that develops 300 hp (220 kW) and 420 Nm of torque on EDC transmission models.

The increased power gives better acceleration and, in tight corners, the agility and stability was greatly improved through the Sport 4CONTROL chassis. More, a new RS monitor displays several vehicle parameters in real time.

The exterior and interior design are now even sportier, to meet the expectations of the growing number of customers who desire a dynamic look. Like the entire range, the New Megane RS comes with an integrated 9.3-inch screen and the Renault Easy Link multimedia system, as well as the new 10.2-inch TFT digital speedometer.

Also, depending on the country, the New Megane RS is equipped with Lane Departure Warning, adaptive speed control (with Stop & Go on the EDC transmission version) and the Active Emergency Braking System. This last one now features an extension of the advanced emergency braking system for city driving and pedestrian detection.

It is safe to say that with these specs, the new Renault Megane RS will continue the success story of the family that was born in 2004 with the introduction of its first generation.

The Renault Megane RS was a total surprise when it came to the market and hit the hot-hatch segment with a car that could deliver more performance than the iconic VW Golf GTI.
The third generation of the Renault Megane RS came in 5-door version and that was a good thing. While it didn’t have the sporty look of a three-door hatchback, it had more practicality. It was based on the mass-volume car Renault Megane and shared the same suspension with that. But a Cup chassis was available as an option and that offered stiffer suspension and a limited-slip differential

From the outside, it was easy to identify a Megane as an RS version due to its checker-flag like fog-lights in the front bumper. The front fenders featured flared wheel-arches and side scoops to extract the air from the wheel-well. The rear bumper was specific for the RS. It featured a trapezoidal middle exhaust and a diffuser underneath. On top of the tailgate, there was a roof-spoiler to enhance the aerodynamic.

Inside, the RS had Alcantara everywhere: on the dashboard, on the bucket-type seats, and on the door panels. Of course, those were offered as an option. Also, an option was the large, portrait type, infotainment touch-screen display. The standard unit was a 7” in a landscape mode.

For the powertrain, there were two options: either a 280 hp version or a more aggressive 300 hp. Both were available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic dual-clutch with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. For better handling, it featured a four-wheel steering as standard.

Renault unveiled an all new Megane compact hatchback at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show, which is longer, lower and better looking than the previous generation.
Built on Renault’s Common Module Family (CMF) platform, the 2016 Renault Megane hatchback looks sportier and more elegant than ever. Fluid shapes converge with hard angles to create a wide planted stance as well as a more upmarket feeling. New color choices, rims and other exterior enhancements are on the list as well.

The interior adopts a cockpit style, with most of the features being clustered around the driver in an enveloping L-shape. The list of features include better fit and finish, new materials, colors, soft-touch panels, Nappa leather trimmings on higher-end models, a full color head-up display, 7-inch color TFT instrument display as well as an 8.8 inch R-Link 2 touchscreen infotainment system, rearview camera, parking assist and more.

Mechanically, the car’s stance has been altered, being wider, lower and extending the wheelbase. Drivers can also chose between 5 driving modes to best suit their needs by modifying the gas pedal and engine response, as well as the speed of the gershifts on the dual-clutch automatic transmission.

-One of the most exciting hot hatch available on the market, the RS came restyled for 2018.
Compared to the regular Megane, the RS had a different look given by the distinctive front and rear bumper, as well as various vents and a rear diffuser. New plastic wheels arches were included in the design and the car became wider and bigger than the previous version.

For the first time, the RS was equipped with 5 doors and no 3 doors option. Also new, the RS featured a huge infotainment touchscreen, an automatic transmission and even ambient lighting that is usually specific to luxurious vehicles.

The RS was available in 3 versions: 280 Sport, 280 Cup and the 300 Trophy. All trim levels included a 4-wheel-steering system that increase agility in slower corners and improved stability in quicker ones.

Fitted with the new RS came a 1.8-liter turbo engine that produced 276 hp for the first two trim levels and 296 hp for the Trophy.

Compared to the regular Megane, the RS came with a fresh palette of distinctive colors such as different yellows, oranges and reds.

The RS was one of the most affordable hot hatches on the market compared to its competitors.

In 2013 Renault thought that some people might want a three-in-one car: something that can go fast, something that can be comfortable and also be able to accommodate five people and some luggage inside.
Something like a Golf GTI. So, it came up with the Megane GT. The car is just a regular compact-sized Renault, but with some special gizmos installed.

First of all, the engine is a detuned Renault Sport engine. So, instead of punching with 280 hp, it pushes with 220 hp. To be comfortable enough in daily traffic, it has an optional 7-speed EDC gearbox. This is the Renault name for the dual-clutch gearbox. Inside the cabin passengers can notice a big, R-Link infotainment unit in the middle of the dashboard. The infotainment unit is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.

It has room for five and a decent trunk and, if needed, can top a 0 to 100 kph (0-62 mph) sprint in 7.6 seconds with the manual transmission. A nice improvement for the car’s dynamic is the four-wheel steering system, which helps the car turn faster in short turns and counter-balance the understeer at higher speeds. The suspension is stiffer compared to the other Megane 5-door version, and the ground clearance is the same as the sportier, 3-door version.

French manufacturer Renault unveiled the third generation Megane in 2008, with the first concept model presented to the general public at the Geneva Auto Show.
More importantly, Renault says the new Megane will be available in no less than six different models, each of them customized and configured depending to the target market. In addition, the Megane is set to reach non-European markets in 2009, but technical equipment will vary according to local conditions. However, the six European models will be manufactured by the Palencia, Spain and Douai, France Renault plants, with the first vehicle scheduled to arrive into authorized dealers in mid-2009.

In 2006, Renault introduced a mid-life cycle refresh for the entire Megane lineup, and it couldn’t leave aside its top-performance version, the RS.
While the rest of the range received the RS front suspension for better handling, the RS remained the same. They didn’t have to improve anything on it, and it remained mostly the same vehicle as before.

Since the RS already sported specific body panels, Renault considered that it should replace only specific parts, which were common with the rest of the Megane range. Thus, the door-mirrors were black instead of body-colored. In the rear, there was a new set of taillights, which sported bigger reversing light lenses. Also, in the back, the bumper received a small refresh for its grille.

Inside, the carmaker installed a full-leather interior with side bolstering fitted as standard, while it offered sports seats on the options list. Its keyless start and entry was also a standard feature. From the factory, the car came fitted with aluminum sports pedals. In the back, it was the same bench as in any other five-door Megane. Along with the facelift, the Megane receive a new infotainment system.

Apart from the 225 hp engine provided since the 2004 model, Renault Sport introduced a tuned 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine, which provided 175 hp. Thus, it entered the competition against the Golf GTD, which offered similar performances.

The Renault Megane series was continued in 2006 with a new facelift installed on both 3- and 5-door hatchbacks.
The French manufacturer redesigned the front grille, the headlights and the front bumper which now provide a more modern look to the car first presented by Renault in 1995. Some engines installed on the 2002 versions are not available anymore but the top engine remains the 2.0-liter 16V turbo that produces 165 horsepower and a maximum speed of 136.7 mph. This new model of Megane was kept in production for only two years, Renault replacing it with the third generation in 2008.

Renault unveiled the facelifted version for the Megane range in 2006, and, along with that, it introduced a special version named GT.
The Megane GT 5-doors was a mix between a regular family hatchback and a sporty vehicle. While it wasn’t as potent as the Megane RS, it was still capable enough to keep up with other hatchbacks from the market. While it didn’t have the most powerful engine available for its stablemates, it was still potent enough to pass as a hot-hatch.

Renault positioned the GT version between the Dynamique and Renault Sport models. It featured a unique front bumper with integrated fog lights on the outer side fitted as standard and a broad grille at the bottom. The main grille, above the bumper, sported the same “Bird beak” design with a vertical slat and the chromed, rhomboidal badge on it. From its sides, the 17” light-alloy wheels were standard, while at the back of the car, the designers installed a Renault Sport-inspired bumper with two exhausts in the middle.

Inside, the carmaker added more bolstering for the front seats and drilled aluminum pedals. A silver, metallic GT logo adorned the leather-wrapped steering wheel. In the instrument panel, Renault installed light-gray dials with red needles for the speedometer and tachometer.

But the carmaker went further than just some aesthetic improvements. It lowered the suspension by 10 mm (0.4”) and installed stiffer springs and dampers together with the anti-roll bars on both axles. Under the hood, Renault introduced a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine which produced 165 hp for the gasoline version, or a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel, which provided 150 hp. Both versions were paired with a six-speed manual.

While its three-door sibling rocketed to the top of the hot-hatch segment, the five-door version was the family car that could smoke many sports cars.
When Renault decided to enter into the compact hot-hatch segment, it asked the Renault Sport department to develop a vehicle starting with the Megane. The result was impressive, and soon it became everyone’s favorite. At least in the countries where Renault sold it. The North-American continent never got it.

At the front, the RS sported a new bumper with a wide lower grille needed to cool the intercooler and engine. For safety reasons, the designers added a pair of fog-lights on the outer sides, which looked like they were aftermarket. Instead of adding some overfenders on the wheel-arches, they replaced them with new ones, and the same went for the rear ones. The doors looked the same as the rest of the Megane hatchback range, but they were lighter. Renault Sport made a new rear bumper to complete the sporty image and installed a dual exhaust in its mid-section.

Inside, the carmaker installed a full-leather interior with side bolstering fitted as standard, while it offered sports seats on the options list. The handbrake looked like an airplane throttle, with the locking button on the driver’s side. Its keyless start and entry was also a standard feature. From the factory, the car came fitted with aluminum sports pedals. In the back, it was the same bench as in any other five-door Megane, but with leather upholstery.

Under the hood, Renault Sport proved its value and made a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that provided 225 hp. It was mated exclusively to a six-speed manual. As an option, Renault offered a limited-slip differential and a stiffened chassis, on the Cup option package.

The 1999 model of Renault Megane 5 doors represents the first facelift of the first generation introduced in 1995.
The facelift actually consisted of a modified grille and slight headlights improvements and multiple safety features installed on all Megane variants. The engine line-up continued to remain unchanged although some people said that this new Megane is able to provide more power than the first generation. What’s interesting is that even if the French carmaker introduced this upgraded Megane, some subsidiaries of Renault continued to sell the old Renault on their domestic markets such as Argentina and Colombia.
