Launched in 1995 - at the Geneva Motor Show - the Alfa Romeo GTV underwent 2 facelifts until its discontinuance in 2005.
The last of these updates were operated in 2003, with the GTV featuring a newly-designed deeper front-grille (therefore moving the frontplate to the right of the grille) and new interior-light configuration. Also, the new model featured a shortened tail end to stress out its aggressive looks. Another interesting new component was the brand new central console panel featuring radio and satellite navigation systems. Alfa stopped producing this 2+2 coupe only two years after its redevelopment, in 2005.

Regarded as the successor of the Alfetta GTV coupe, the new car was designed by Pininfarina Spa. at Turin and featured a new triangular corporate grille, sleek nose and small quad circular headlamps. The Alfa GTV coupe was developed on the Tipo platform that featured redesigned multilink suspension and new brakes. It was fitted with either a 150-hp 2.0L engine or a powerful 220-hp 3.0L V6 unit, proving a worthy competitor to the BMW 328i on the coupe sector.
